Keyboard Harmony 209
Scott Foglesong
General Description of the Course
Keyboard Harmony 209 is the first semester of a two-semester course which teaches you basic harmonic skills at the keyboard, including playing chord progressions, realizing figured bass, score reading, harmonizing melodies, and other related skills.
Class meetings are devoted primarily to drill sessions in the topics being covered. In addition to the in-class work, you will need sufficient practice time for your weekly assignments.
Grading Procedures
All assignments you do for class session are graded. In addition to the weekly assignments, there are midterm and final exams.
Midterm and Final exams count for 50% of your semester grade; your weekly assignments count for the remaining 50%.
The department of Musicianship and Music Theory has established the following curve for grading:
90 - 100% A
80 - 89% B
70 - 79% C
60 - 69% D
Marks below 60% are considered failing.
Attendance Policy
Any absence which is not cleared with the instructor is an unexcused absence. Any absence may be unexcused if the reasons for the absence are considered unacceptable by the instructor. You are permitted one unexcused absence per semester without penalty other than the grade F for that day's work: each unexcused absence beyond the first will result in the lowering of your semester grade by one full letter, regardless of the overall quality of your work. There is absolutely no penalty for an excused absence: missed in-class work will not be counted against you.
